It's been a while...

It’s been a while since I updated the news page and there has been a bit going on over the past few weeks. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Festivus and Happy New Year.

The New Year brings a new project to Platt Custom Creations with the start of a bedroom suite for our master bedroom. Of simple design, the bedroom suite will be a king bed with matching bedside tables. It’s designed to showcase the timber and have a clean, modern look with a country flavour. Keep an eye on my Instagram page for updates.

The timber I’ve chosen is a mixed hardwood milled locally. It looks a bit like Ash but has a lot more figure and colour in the grain, I’m thinking it is some sort of Box or eucalypt by the smell.

In other news, the Tool Acquisition Disorder is still strong. Those who follow Instagram will have seen my round trip to Bendigo to pick up Hercus 9” ARM lathe. This little lathe is something I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for over the past couple of years and now have the start of the metal machining side of the workshop that I’m hoping to expand in future….if only I had a bigger workshop!

The CNC is still taunting me in the workshop. I haven’t fully nutted this thing out yet and some buggy software isn’t helping. I’m determined to not let it beat me (although it was threatened with eBay last week) so I’ll persist. I did managed to fumble my way through and cut out a small hold down clamp…but it took hours….more work to be done.

Hope everyone has a great 2019 and I look forward to what the New Year brings for Platt Custom Creations.

All the best,

Tony
